Heroes of Today-2

Beowulf does in fact remind me of heroes of today. Our nation’s soldiers face danger and death on a daily basis. Currently with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the terrorist have resorted to using improvised explosive devices to harm these soldiers instead of fighting them head on because they know they will lose. They have to keep their guard up at all times to be on the look out for these devices. They can be anything from an animal carcass to as big as a dump truck packed with explosives. When the terrorist do decide to fight, it’s usually not for long. They like to take a few pop shots from amongst a group of civilians and run once they have the soldiers’ attention. The overwhelming firepower and fire support that the American forces possess is too much for a group of insurgents to put up a sustained gunfight. Our sailors, soldiers, airmen and Marines, share many of the same characteristics as Beowulf did. Like Beowulf, the members of our armed forces are fearless and ready and willing to face any threat towards this country. They both face death in order to save a threatened community. Another characteristic they share is that they have a high level of confidence. This is vital when going into harm’s way and expecting to live to tell about it.
